Why this site exists

I installed Claude Code thinking I was going to speed up work for my clients. After a while it started to feel like working with a colleague — except this colleague was the most knowledgeable person that's ever lived. And then I realised: it's enough to replace people in jobs. A lot of people's jobs.

I used to bore my friends at drinks talking about technological unemployment. Nerdy guy thinking about something dramatic in the future — I wasn't actually worried. Now I'm worried. This is happening now.

New Zealand's main industry is the service industry — two thirds of our GDP. That's the part AI hits hardest. Imagine the upheaval to the fabric of society. Think of other major transitions in history — they often didn't go well.

But NZ is uniquely positioned to deal with what's coming. Small population, high trust society with very low corruption, Māori frameworks like kaitiakitanga we can draw on, energy independence, geographic isolation. If we start thinking about this now, maybe we can come through it all right.

That's why I started this website — a place to talk seriously about the policies needed to bridge across to a post-labour society. Totally non-partisan. Every party tested on their positions.

I've been thinking about this a lot, but I need someone to talk to about it.
